República del Ecuador; pronounced , which
literally translates to the Republic of the Equator) is a
representative democratic republic in South America, bordered by
Colombia on the north, Peru on the east and south, and by
Ecuador straddles the equator, from which it takes its name, and has
an area of 256.370 km2 (109,483 sq mi).
Ecuador is also home—despite its size—to a great variety
of species, many of them endemic, like those of the Galápagos islands.
This species diversity makes Ecuador one of the 17 megadiverse
countries in the world.

Country, northwestern South
the Andes Mountains, which give way to the Ecuadoran portion of the
tropical Amazon River basin in the east. The Andes rise dramatically
in two chains that run north to south and are separated by high
valleys.
Ecuador is a unitary multiparty republic with one
legislative house; its head of state and government is the president.
What is now Ecuador was conquered by the Incas in the second half of
the 15th century and came under Spanish control in 1534.

Ecuador is a country in Northwestern South America, with a Pacific
Ocean coastline, lying on the Equator between Colombia, to the
northeast, and Peru, to the south and east.

The "Republic of the Ecuador" was one of three countries that emerged
from the collapse of Gran Colombia in 1830 (the others being Colombia
and Venezuela). Between 1904 and 1942, Ecuador lost territories in a
series of conflicts with its neighbors.
Ecuador adopted the United States dollar (USD) as its currency in
2000.
Ecuador is the
second-smallest country in South America, but its range of offerings
is no less than astounding.
